2-Person Barrel vs Pod Sauna: Which to Buy

Choosing between a 2-person barrel and a 2-person pod is the classic couples decision: iconic rounded heat versus a compact modern footprint. Both are handcrafted in East Idaho from Sugi cedar, built for traditional outdoor heat, not infrared cabins.

Starting prices: 2-person Barrel from $5,445 · 2-person Pod from $5,545. Dimensions, heater packages, roof inclusions, and lead times can change, so confirm them on each product page before you order.

Quick head-to-head

  • 2-person Barrel: Classic rounded profile, traditional sauna feel, longer oval footprint. Choose it if you want the iconic look and efficient heat character of a barrel.
  • 2-person Pod: Compact, modern silhouette with a tighter patio footprint. Good for side yards, small decks, and a clean contemporary line.

Both suit everyday couples use; neither is a family entertaining cabin. Stretch into 4-person pods, cubes, or larger barrels when guests are regular. See the Outdoor Saunas collection.

Feel and heat

Barrels are known for efficient heat and that classic steam-and-cedar ritual. Pods deliver the same traditional hot-room idea in a different shell: both 2-person models list electric heater packages on their product pages, and both product pages list 175–230°F for the included heater.

Both have 1 5/8" thick Sugi cedar walls for solid outdoor performance. Outdoor packages typically include a durable black metal roof. Confirm inclusions on each product page. Wood details: Sugi cedar guide. Both are fastened with stainless steel screws, with no glue in the cabin joinery: clean build.

Footprint and yard fit

Measure the real clear space, door swing, and roof overhang, not only the marketing seat count.

  • Tight patio / side yard → lean pod
  • Room for a longer oval and classic curb appeal → lean barrel
  • Delivery path width → check both product pages and our Delivery & lead times notes

Base and electrical planning is the same class of work for either shape: level pad, dedicated circuit for electric heaters, clearances. Start here: Foundation & Electrical.
