Why Blazin Saunas

Built by hand in Idaho Falls, Idaho

Sugi cedar, no plastics

Pods, barrels, cubes and the Timberline are Sugi cedar. The Teton and Blackwood also offer Thermo Spruce or Thermo Aspen interiors. No plastics in the structure that off-gas in the heat.

Heaters

Choose your heat

Electric, wood-burning, or gas and propane heaters, and we can build with both wood and electric if you want both. Heat-up takes 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the size of the sauna.

Electric

Suits most backyards where a licensed electrician can run a dedicated circuit to the sauna.

Wood-burning

Suits cabins, canyon lots and rural properties where running power is impractical, or anyone who prefers the ritual of tending a fire.

Gas / propane

Another option. Ask us how it fits your property, and check local rules for gas or propane installs.

Wood + electric

Both wood and electric builds are available on request.

Before you order

  • A level, well-drained base
  • Zoning and setback rules for your lot
  • HOA approval, if you have one
  • Electrical permit and circuit for an electric heater
  • A clear delivery path for the truck
  • Room to keep the roof and door path clear of snow

Rules vary by city, county and HOA. We're happy to talk through placement by phone.

FAQ

Questions we hear most

How long does delivery take for me in the Upper Midwest?

Pods, barrels, cubes and the Timberline typically have a 4 to 5 week lead time, followed by 5 to 10 business days in transit. For the Teton and Blackwood, lead time is confirmed with your quote.

Can Blazin assemble the sauna for me in the Upper Midwest?

Yes. Professional assembly is $1,250 on pods, barrels, cubes and the Timberline, and our own crew installs it. Our pro assembly team works nationwide. The Teton and Blackwood arrive fully built.

Can someone visit my property before I order?

We don't do site visits. We consult by phone, and photos of your site, access path and power help us plan.

What warranty and return policy apply?

Every sauna has a 3-year limited warranty that applies to residential, rental and commercial use, including saunas bought through an authorized dealer. All sales are final. Each sauna is handmade for your order in East Idaho.

How can I pay?

Pay in full, choose monthly payments through Affirm (rates shown at checkout), or use HSA/FSA funds through TrueMed if you qualify with a Letter of Medical Necessity. Options are on each sauna product page.

Do you ship outdoor saunas to Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan?

Yes. Pods, barrels, cubes, and the Timberline ship free to all three states as part of our free shipping to the contiguous U.S. The Teton and Blackwood arrive fully built, with shipping quoted by location and crane needs.

How much snow does an Upper Midwest sauna have to handle?

It depends where you are. The Twin Cities and Madison get plenty, and Michigan's Upper Peninsula gets far more. Keep the roof and door clear, and check your local rules and ask us about your address.

Do I need a permit for a backyard sauna in Minnesota?

Possibly. Check local rules with your city, town, or county; it decides what your project needs. Electrical work, zoning, and HOA rules can also apply.

What about Wisconsin and Michigan permits?

Check local rules with your city, town, or county in either state; it decides what your project needs. Zoning, setbacks, and electrical permits can also apply.

Wood-burning or electric for a northern winter?

Both work. Electric suits a backyard where an electrician can run a dedicated circuit. Wood-burning suits a cabin or lake property without easy power. Heat-up takes 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the size of the sauna.

Local know-how

Planning your sauna

Weather and setup in the Upper Midwest

The Upper Midwest shares long winters and an old sauna tradition, but each state handles permits its own way. This page covers Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan.

A sauna tradition with deep roots here
Sauna came to this region with Finnish immigrants. MNopedia, from the Minnesota Historical Society, notes that Finnish settlers of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries often built a sauna as the first structure on new rural land, living and bathing in it while they built their farms. The Barberg-Selvälä-Salmonson sauna in Cokato is the oldest savusauna, or smoke sauna, still standing in Minnesota (MNopedia, Barberg-Selvälä-Salmonson Sauna).

Long winters, from the Twin Cities to the U.P.
Winter here is long and cold, and it changes as you move across the region:
- Minneapolis-St. Paul: cold winters with steady snow.
- Madison, Wisconsin: much the same snow and cold as the Twin Cities.
- Marquette and the Upper Peninsula: heavy lake-effect snow and bitter Januarys.

In lake-effect country especially, keep the roof clear, shovel a path to the door, and set the sauna where drifting snow won't bury the entrance. Confirm with your building department what snow load applies at your address.

Delivery to a lake place
If your lake place is down a seasonal road or has a tight approach, tell us early.

Permits and rules in the Upper Midwest

Wood-burning, electric, or both. The wood-fired sauna is part of the tradition here, and electric is the easy choice in town. Electric or wood-burning heaters, and we can build with both wood and electric if you want both. Gas and propane heaters are available by request: call, text or message us to set it up. Our pods, cubes, 2 Person Barrel, XL Barrel, and Timberline list 175 to 230°F for the included heater.

- Wood-burning for a cabin, lake lot, or rural property where bringing power out is impractical. Check your local rules and ask us, and follow the stove instructions for clearances.
- Electric for a backyard where a licensed electrician can run a dedicated circuit.

Permits: check local rules first. Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan each handle backyard structures their own way, and cities, towns, and counties add their own zoning and setback rules. Electrical work for a heater can need its own permit even when the structure does not.

A heated sauna may not be treated like a storage shed, and a shed exemption, where one exists, may not cover zoning, setbacks, HOA covenants, or electrical work. Check local rules with your city, town, or county before you order.
