Outdoor Sauna Foundation & Electrical Setup

Good site prep makes delivery day smooth and keeps your sauna performing for years. This page is planning guidance. Always follow local codes and hire licensed trades where required.

For the full purchase checklist, see the Outdoor Sauna Buying Guide.

Pick the spot

  • Level ground with room for doors, roof overhang, and maintenance access
  • Clearance from fences, eaves, and combustibles
  • A path for delivery and assembly

Foundation / base principles

Most outdoor saunas need a level, stable base: concrete pads, compacted gravel, or a simple platform depending on the model. Check your product page for weight and footprint, and keep water draining away from the cabin.

Electrical basics (electric heaters)

Electric heaters often need a dedicated outdoor circuit (commonly 240V), sized to the heater. Plan conduit, disconnects, and GFCI per local code with a licensed electrician. Browse heater options in Heaters. For heater sizing, see Harvia Heater Sizing for Barrel Saunas.

Outdoor packages and roofs

Many backyard installs use a simple roof or weather-shedding package. Plan flashing and drainage so water stays off the cabin.

Before scheduling delivery, review Outdoor Sauna Delivery & Lead Times for access, timing, and site-readiness details.
