Handmade Outdoor Saunas in New Mexico

Short answer: yes, you can get a handmade outdoor sauna delivered to New Mexico, from Albuquerque and Santa Fe to Taos and Los Alamos. Each one is built to order in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Pods, barrels, cubes, and the Timberline ship free in the contiguous U.S. The Blazin Teton Sauna and The Blackwood arrive fully built, and their shipping is quoted.

New Mexico mixes high desert and real mountain winters. Here is what that means for your order.

Elevation decides the winter

Snowfall in New Mexico tracks elevation more than latitude. Albuquerque sees light snow, while Santa Fe, Taos, and Los Alamos, higher up, get noticeably more each winter.

  • Albuquerque and the Rio Grande valley: dry air, strong sun, and the occasional snow. Shade and cedar care matter more than snow removal. See Cedar sauna maintenance.
  • Santa Fe, Taos, Los Alamos, and the high country: plan a clear path to the door, brush snow off the roof, and ask the building office what snow load applies to your parcel. See Cold-climate saunas.
  • Everywhere: summer storms can be sudden. A level base that drains keeps water away from the floor and benches.

We don't publish snow-load ratings or R-values.

Electric heat first

Rules on wood smoke and burning vary by city and county in New Mexico, so check your local rules when you plan.

We steer New Mexico buyers to an electric heater. We do not claim that a wood-burning heater is allowed or approved in any New Mexico city or county. If wood heat matters to you, check your local rules and call us before you choose. Gas and propane heaters are available by request: call, text or message us to set it up. Our pods, cubes, 2 Person Barrel, XL Barrel, and Timberline list 175-230°F for the included heater. Compare heater types: Electric vs wood-burning.

Permits and licensed trades

Hire licensed trades for the base and the electrical hookup. Your city or county can tell you what the sauna itself needs.

Ask your city or county building office whether your sauna needs a permit, and confirm zoning, setbacks, and any HOA or historic-district rules before you order. If you live in a historic district, ask about design review early. Our Permits and HOA guide has a checklist.

What you are buying

Pods, barrels, cubes, and the Timberline are Sugi cedar kits with 1 5/8" walls and stainless screws, with no glue in the joinery. The Teton and Blackwood are insulated, fully built cabins: Sugi cedar, Thermo Spruce, or Thermo Aspen inside, with siding chosen per build. Read Sugi cedar outdoor saunas for the wood story.

Pods, barrels, cubes, and the Timberline are $1,250 off regular price until we are booked up. The Teton and Blackwood are regular price. Not sure on size? Family outdoor sauna guide · Which sauna fits me.
