Outdoor Sauna Running Cost

What an outdoor sauna costs to run depends on where you live and your local power prices. The three things that set it are your heater size, how often you use it, and your local power rate.

How to get a sense of your cost

Check the kW label on your heater and the rate on your utility bill, then think about how often you plan to use the sauna. Your utility can tell you your exact rate. We do not quote a running cost because it changes so much from place to place.

What raises or lowers the cost

  • Session length. Longer sessions and longer warm-ups use more energy.
  • Room size. A bigger room has more air to heat. Buy for the people who will use it most often.
  • Weather. Cold air and wind pull heat from the walls and roof. See outdoor saunas for cold climates.
  • Door habits. Each time the door opens, hot air leaves.
  • Controls. A WiFi heater lets you start the sauna only when you need it. See WiFi sauna heaters.

Wood and gas

A wood stove needs no electricity, so its running cost is your firewood. Gas follows your local natural gas or propane price. Compare the options in electric vs wood-burning heaters and gas and propane sauna heaters.

Questions

How much does it cost to run an outdoor sauna?

It depends on your location and local power prices: your heater size, how often you use it, and your local power rate. Check the kW label on your heater and the rate on your utility bill.

How do I get a sense of my electric sauna cost?

Check the kW label on your heater and your utility rate, and think about how often you will use the sauna. Your utility can tell you your exact rate.

Is wood or gas cheaper to run than electric?

It depends on local prices. A wood stove uses no electricity, so its cost is your firewood. Gas follows your natural gas or propane rate. Compare your own local prices.

Does a sauna cost more to run in winter?

Usually yes. Cold air and wind pull heat from the walls and roof, so the heater runs longer. Keep sessions planned and the door closed.

Which Blazin saunas can use wood heat?

The 6 Person Cube is electric. Wood-burning or gas heat on the 6 Person Cube is available on request; ask us. Pods use electric heat, or gas by request, not wood. Ask us which heaters fit the other models.
